Description
Starting with "So What Do You Do," this Las Vegas reference book takes a revealing look into the Las Vegas cab industry, where drivers struggle daily to keep up with the thieves they are competing with. You might not think that this thievery affects you but, oh yeah, it does because it's your money that is the target of the thieves!
I've revealed how the bureaucratic agency that governs them in every way possible operates and just how clueless this agency is when it comes to licensing, regulating, and policing thousands of drivers. Understand how the greedy companies treat their drivers like subhuman creatures, constantly berating, punishing, and firing them if they don't "book" high enough.
One of the main purposes of my book is to educate unsuspecting passengers on how to determine if they are being "taken for a ride" (long hauled) and what to do about it. Example: If you pretty much know the ballpark figure for a fare and the meter registers way over that amount, simply either (1) pay him that ballpark figure, or (2) don't pay him at all! If you decide to pay the driver, for goodness sake... DON'T tip him! Included are typical fares from McCarran International Airport, which should be posted at the airport but are not.
Just reading the "Useful Tips" chapter will bring you a wealth of information well worth the price of this Las Vegas book alone! The chapter is packed with facts that you might not know, which will definitely come in handy when you visit "The Entertainment Capital of the World."
I've also included information on tipping, walking, driving, and renting cars and "guidelines," sort of like taxicab protocol. On the lighter side, there are fun stories and classic questions and comments from passengers.
As the common thread throughout most of the book is about "long hauling"... the last chapter contains actual statements of passengers regarding their experiences with lowlife individuals who "masquerade" as cab drivers.
I'm a former cabdriver who might want to drive again, possibly in Las Vegas, so this book is published under a pen name. I admit it is highly unlikely that I will hit the mean streets again driving a cab.

UPDATE: **It was brought to my attention by a reader that they didn't understand what a "geographically-restricted cab" was, so here's the definition: A "geographically-restricted cab" is not permitted to pick up in certain areas, mostly at the airport, on the Strip, and Downtown Las Vegas. There are definitive boundaries laid out on the Nevada Taxicab Authority website. For example, a "GEO" cab... what they're referred to by those in the industry... can pick you up at the Westin but not at Caesars Palace. However, they can, of course, take you anywhere. Hope that clears this up!
