Oliver Smith, known as Food to his friends, so called on account of the fact he can't afford to feed himself aged 31, is a down and out with no impulse control. Having just been kicked out from his family home by his wife, Food moves in to a lads' flat in the city centre of Leeds.

However, life with his new friends is not so cosy for Food as he struggles with finding work and advancing his non-existent career, his housemates who refuse to give him a break as well as the government who Food is convinced are after him.
