Description
I was born in the North of England, where most of my youth was spent aboard inland waterway boats. This was rather foolish as I should have been at college studying for an OND in engineering, but I decided to learn some life skills with my friends. I took an apprenticeship instead, which would enable me to spend more time doing what I loved. This book, though fictional, is based upon these experiences.
It follows the adventures and personal lives of "The Syndicate," who buy an ex-working barge, and fit it out as a pleasure boat. It demonstrates typical life in that era, and how people struggled with decaying boats, and by doing so, kept the canal system alive.
Please note: This book though fictional, is based on a down-to-earth account of a real group of working people who rescue and rebuild a canal barge. It is pithy, and contains (censored) swearing from the beginning, which might not suit anybody who is easily offended.
