Welcome to the one hundredth edition of Schlock!

To celebrate, we're reprising Paul Mellino's Elizabeth Bathory painting, which we previously featured as the cover way back in the thirteenth issue, July 2011.

We're also pleased to open submissions to our latest anthology, The Pulpateers. What we're looking for is previously unpublished old-style pulp stories in the genres of science fiction, fantasy and horror. Word length 6000. Please follow, as far as possible, the Lester Dent Pulp Fiction Formula. The content, as long as it's sci fi/fantasy/horror, is up to the individual author, but try to make it pulpy and retro. Weird tales, superheroes, Flash Gordon-style space opera, even noir or spy-fi, as long as it has a supernatural or SF twist, will all be accepted. Deadline: 19th May. This week, in HG Towne's Star Thistle serial, the conflict between rival Chinese gangs of sorcerers in Old California reaches a climax and a pause. Watch this space - the barbarian Russell will return!

We also have the first episode of Bernard, a serial by Todd Nelsen, a tale of night terrors. Todd's been contributing to Schlock since issue 16, also in July 2011, so it's good to see him aboard for the 100th edition. Then there's another story by Benjamin Welton, A Sloth's View of Life, which tells of mean streets and meaningless quests. Ben's work first appeared in Schlock way back in the twenty fifth edition in October 2011.

Next there's the latest installment of The Days of Mr. Thomas by James Rhodes, who's been appearing in the 'zine since before we even had cover illustrations; his excellent sci-fi tale The Bombastic Prince appeared in the first edition. This is followed by The Right to be Unadulterated by Sergio Palumbo (edited by Michele Dutcher), who both first appeared in Schlock! in issue 48.

Our serials continue, Daniel's Dream by Rob Bliss and Hilltop Manor by Nathan JDL Rowark, both prolific contributors. This week Nathan published the anthology Tales of the Undead - Suffer Eternal, which includes stories by Omar ZahZah, Nathan himself, and yours truly. He first appeared in Schlock's 34th edition. Rob Bliss' first story appeared in the fifty-fifth edition. The First Men in the Moon are lost, and in A Journey to the Centre of the Earth Harry is alone.

And meanwhile, in Songcatcher, Thaddeus J Applebee fulminates against Geordie McElroy's most offensive field report yet as the rogue ethnomusicologist claims to have found apocryphal gospels in an Ethiopian Jacuzzi.
