SARRASINE:
French to English
THIS EDITION: This book contains two stories by Honoré de Balzac: "Sarrasine" and "Facino Cane". The dual-language text has been arranged into sub-paragraphs and paragraphs, for quick and easy cross-referencing. The stories were originally written in French. The French text has been modernised and amended to suit this dual language project. The revised English text is in part a new translation from French. Essentially, Sarrasine and Facino Cane have been rewritten in contemporary English from the French. The emphasis is on attaining a high correlation between each set of text fragments.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Sarrasine is a novel by French author Honoré de Balzac, and was first published in 1831. In the story, there is an encounter between a mysterious old gentleman and the narrator's female companion. The narrator then unwillingly explains to his female companion who this old man is. Facino Cane is the next story in the 'Scenes de la vie parisienne' section of "La Comédie humaine".
AUTHOR: Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850) was a frank and independent French thinker. As an interesting snippet, he used to eat a light meal in the late afternoon, go to bed, and rise to commence his day's work in what people class as the middle of the night - fuelled by endless cups of black coffee.
