Description
This book contains the stories of Erec and Enidè, Alexander and Soredamor, and The Knight of the Lion. It includes other characters from Arthurian legend, including Arthur, Guinevere, Kay, Gawain, Ewain (also known as Ywain, Owain, or Yvain), and Erec (sometimes conflated with Geraint). The first section of the book talks about the legends, their history, and information about the original 12th century author, Chrétien de Troyes, followed by the three stories listed above. Dialog has been spread out in accordance with modern usage (as opposed to listing them all together in one long paragraph with little or no indication as to who is talking), and other minor grammar changes have been made for readability (a sentence with four semicolons will be broken down into smaller sentences, etc.). The texts themselves have not been changed and footnotes have been added to explain words that either meant something different in mediaeval times, or ones that will not be familiar to a modern reader.
This book was originally published in 1897, and this is the 3rd edition printed in 1905. This is volume one of a two volume set.
