Description
It is recommended that in order to appreciate this book you should read 'The Bismarck Folly part 1, Resurrection', first.
Cussler meets Clancy and Kent in this fast paced thriller.
Jonathan Henry König, billionaire shipping magnate and former Royal Navy Officer is not happy; in fact he's so angry he's going to do something about it.
Someone took one of his ships and killed all the crew. Jonathan Henry, aka 'Jake' sets out to make sure it won't happen again, at all, ever. With an upsurge of piracy in the Gulf of Aden and other choke points and dithering governments, hamstrung by liberal progressives, unable to do anything, König decides the time is right for a new way of dealing with this problem.
The billionaire industrialist has other more immediate problems though. Sued in a Dutch court for failure in duty of care towards his dead employees, he faces a mega multi-million pound fine as the European Court of Human Rights comes down against him at appeal. Instead of simply accepting the status quo he plans to take the war to those who pirate and kill either in the name of the Prophet, or for profit.
Set in the turbulent teens of the 21st century as navies cut back further and further, Jake decides the time is right for the return of the privately owned 'man of war'. That idea alone will set him against many governments but his controversial choice of ship design could even set his friends against him.
Relocating his business interests to the newly independent Cayman Islands where an old friend is now prime Minister, he draws his plans together but events beyond his control force a conflict in which his ship and her company must win or die. In a final twist of fate, victory for his ship must mean death for his wife and soulmate held captive by a brutal dictator.
In the background the clock of history is ticking loudly. As the 27th of May approaches, events seem to be leading everyone towards a replay of a final desperate battle. Only one man aboard sees the significance of the date as the seconds count down towards the final confrontation. Will history repeat itself?
