Description
The legendary quest for The Fountain of Youth has dominated mankind throughout history and many diverse cultures. It is the myth of a sacred water source with magical restorative properties that keep us healthy, free from sickness, and forever young. These tales have been documented since 5th century Greece for thousands of years from Alexander the Great to Prester John, to the Romans and their spas. The most prominent discovery of this fountain attributed to the Spanish conquistador Ponce De Leon, who traveled in 1513, to St. Augustine, Florida. There is significant debate from modern scholars on the true mission of Ponce De Leon. Many believe his only interest was for political gain instead of longevity and immortality, as there have been no documents from the era or letters from Leon that his purpose was to search for the fountain. However, in the city of St. Augustine today, resides The Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park as a tribute to him and the location of his landing site.
Water is one of the fundamental elements, and has been associated with creation myths throughout the world. Sacred fountains such as springs or wells have been exclaimed as wells of knowledge, or fountains of immortality. These underground sources provided mineral water for bathing, and healing cures. In later years these springs were referred to as hot springs, thermal springs, baths and spas. This book offers insight into the history and beneficial properties of some of the most popular miraculous healing springs locations around the world. These include Liaoning, China, Lourdes, France, Nordenau, Germany, Nadana, India, Ryujin Onsen, Japan, Tiacote, Mexico, Pamukkale, Turkey, and Glenwood Springs, CO in the United States. Remarkably, the springs have attained sacredness and special significance through a connection of healing miracles.
