The English novelist and poet Thomas Love Peacock was a close friend of Percy Bysshe Shelley and they are believed to have influenced each other's work. Peacock wrote satirical novels, featuring characters at a table discussing and criticising the philosophical opinions of the day. In his most famous novel, 'Nightmare Abbey', romantic melancholy is satirised, with amusing lampoons of Shelley, Coleridge and Byron.
