Description
I can't tell you where I first heard about it, but I have had a copy of POWER AND HEALTH THROUGH PROGRESSIVE EXERCISE By George Elliot Flint in my collection for a long time and it has long been one of my favorites.
Perhaps one of the reasons that I like this so much is that George Elliot Flint was not a famous name in physical training circles, nor was he a weightlifting or physique champion -- really just an ordinary Joe who decided to get into training in a serious way and had something to say about it -- but as you can see by the results of his efforts, they would certainly stand up just as well today, well over a century later.
How many people -- of any age -- do you know who can do a handstand? Or put a 100-pound dumbbell overhead with one hand? Or who just live their lives in a strong and healthy manner? Unfortunately the answer is "not many" so it is clear that the type of information presented here, from a person like Mr. Flint, is just as important today as it ever was -- and perhaps even more so.
There is a tremendous amount if incredibly practical and usable training advice contained therein. Flint's advice on the avoidance of overtraining, to give you one good example, is something that MANY people need to hear these days. Flint's advice on nutrition is especially eye-opening considering the time period.
This is a title that has flown under the radar as far as classic strength books go, so it occurred to me that putting together a kindle version would be an excellent way to share it with others.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Train hard,
John Wood
