SECOND IN THE DET. INSP. CHARLIE CRILE TRILOGY
A TRILOGY OF BOOKS THAT TAKES THE READER FROM AN EXCITING START TO AN EVEN MORE EXCITING AND DEVASTATING END IN A STORY OF GREED, JEALOUSY, INTRICATE RELATIONSHIPS AND MURDER THAT PROVES TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT.
It is almost a year since Detective Inspector Charlie Crile was fighting for his life and his family. Now his life has settled. Charlie and his wife Jenny now have a new baby boy and he is once again enjoying his job with the Durham Police Force.
Patrick McCarthy, known as Big Pat, a notorious drug dealer, money launderer and all-round nasty piece of work, is still spreading his web of misery around the Newcastle area like a black spider hiding in his web waiting to pounce on the weak and vulnerable but always elusive enough to escape prosecution. Now it looks like he is making moves to cast his malicious web into the Durham area.
Unusually, Big Pat is finding that not everything is going his way. His intimidation and thuggery are not preventing problems for his latest enterprise. The police seem to be one step ahead of him. He suspects a mole in the pack and he needs to find out who it is. As he attempts to weed out the informer he finally arrives at an horrific conclusion.
All this coincides with a murder on Crile's patch which appears to be linked to Big Pat but the motive is unknown. Crile and his team face a very unusual problem - too many suspect! All of whom have built themselves an intricate web of lies and deceit - including the victim. As Crile and the team pick through the many strands, the shocking outcome is a twist no one expected.
Charlie Crile's home life may have settled down in the past year, but are his problems really over.
