Description
What follows is another great entry in physical training "lore". If you have ever wanted to know how one of the all-time great champion's views on diet and training that's exactly what you'll find in the following pages. This publication originally appeared in 1901 and Fitzsimmons was still fighting at the time. A few years before, Fitzsimmons knocked out Jim Corbett in 14 rounds to take the World Heavyweight title. And not only that, a few years later (notably at 40 years of age) Fitzsimmons decisioned George Gardner after 20 rounds, to win the Light Heavyweight title. This win was Fitzsimmons' third world championship in three different weight classes - a record. So the bottom line is that the techniques and advice that are discussed in this book come straight from the horse's mouth and certainly come with an effective track record.
Interestingly, the original publisher, A. J. Drexel Biddle, a friend of Fitzsimmons, later went on to his own measure of fame teaching hand-to-hand combat in both World War I and World War II. Several of Fitsimmons' methods, including the "Killer Shift" which is discussed here, became a part of Biddle's repertoire.
I'll have some commentary later on in the course concerning my take on Fitsimmons' methods. At any rate, we have gone to great length to reproduce this body of work faithfully, the text has been spell checked, and each image has scanned at the highest resolution. And, as we always do with our vintage books and courses, additional material has been added.
This course is basic and straightforward -- although that is also what makes it valuable. Many of the techniques and pieces of advice that Fitzsimmons provides are rather amazingly pertinent even well over a century later. They will most definitely benefit those who choose to employ them in this day and age.
Have at it.
Train hard,
John Wood
