Description
Sig Klein only had a few training courses to his name, so people don't often realize what a prolific writer he was. Take a look back through the old magazines and you'll find a Sig Klein article or column in almost all of them for several decades straight.
If you take the time to read what ol' Sig had to say, you'll get the idea in short order that he either knew, visited, corresponded with, or met nearly every significant Iron Game figure during the Golden Age of Strength training. "My First Quarter Century in the Iron Game," which ran as a series in Strength and Health Magazine in 1944 and 1945, and was authored by the maestro himself shows that was in fact the case. As you'll read here, Sig was a connection point for nearly every aspect of The Iron Game for several decades and his reminiscence and experiences reads like a "who's who" of oldtime strength culture. This series has never appeared as a compilation until now -- over seventy years after it was initially published.
What I have really enjoyed in reading this material are the little bits of strength knowledge sprinkled throughout, and, of course, in the final chapter, we are treated to the specific workout that Sig was doing at the time (which makes for an interesting comparison to what passes as "cutting edge" these days.)
I believe that if for nothing else, Sig's tales are worth a read because they will get you fired up to go train -- at least that's how it has been for me.
As always:
Train hard,
John Wood
