While you drink your way through grief, teen-aged Erisa loses her parents in a plane wreck and goes to live near Boulder, Colorado with her wealthy Aunt Devon. Your brother Ted, who was cold and calculating growing up, has been taking lessons in "normal human conduct" while channeling his solitary thrill-killing into a job moonlighting for a murky group of powerful people. While Erisa struggles with the loss of her parents and explores her new mansion and out-of-bounds basement, Aunt Devon manipulates Erisa emotionally, with the help of a psychiatrist and medication, to join the Poisoners Club, a tight group of seven women who cautiously target members of the evil group. Devon invites your brother over for dinner one night.
In part two, you drop out in Texas, where you have a near-death accident, are instructed by God, it appears, to prophetically spread his message, and suddenly can perform miracles, hover and hear secrets and detailed observations of anybody's life. Your magical abilities and sincere convictions begin to draw believers from a camp of survivalists in South Dakota. Meanwhile, Erisa evolves in the Poisoners Club, learning how to poison influential people. You struggle with your mourning in light of being a perceived prophet and falling in love with Mitchell, a woman from the survivalist camp. Erisa has turned her attention to you, attempting to destroy you.
In part three, Mitchell and a group of disciples, along with your reputation and miracles, propel you and the Church of Now to world-renowned status. Supernatural destruction, in the form of weather cataclysms, infestations and crime, grows stronger on Earth, as does the world's belief in you as a bona fide prophet. Your church settles into a South Pacific island, grows in size and publicly addresses the growing problems on Earth.
Lastly, the story switches to the point of view of Kiko, a teen-age girl from a tribal, parallel world. Through meditation and exploration of alternate consciousness, she meets Erisa.
