Kenya is a large African country, on the Eastern coast of the continent, where it meets the Indian Ocean. Fish is therefore readily available, as well as goat, lamb and beef. The recipes of Kenya vary a bit from one region to the next, since there are three main ethnic groups in the country.
Kenya's people have lived their traditional lives for 1000's of years. Some still live and cook in much the same way as their ancestors. The tribes herd goats and cattle, and their diet is supplemented with wild greens.
Farming tribes in Kenya cultivate crops that have been used for centuries, including sweet potatoes, black eyed peas, tomatoes and chilies. You will note especially how many dishes are made with chilies and tomatoes. They are used together a lot in Kenyan cooking.
