Description

This work by Richard Le Gallienne is a beautiful testament of a father's love for his daughters, especially in the aftermath of a tragedy. The wife and second daughter of the author passed away during child birth, leaving him alone with his first daughter Hesper. In 1897 he married Julie Nørregaard, a Danish journalist. She became stepmother to Hesper and their daughter Eva was born January 11, 1899.

Mr. Sun and Mrs. Moon is clearly a picture into the authors mind through all of this. It explores some themes of death and birth, especially in regards to mothers, fathers, and daughters. The story is written really with Hesper in mind and largely from her perspective, as the story is more relevant to Hesper's upbringing, but as you will see there is a dedication in the beginning To Eva as to not leave her out. Later in life, Eva will go on to become a well-known American stage actress, producer, director, and author.
