About Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is a classic science fiction adventure novel by French writer Jules Verne, first published in a fortnightly periodical, the Magasin d'éducation et de récréation, and then in book form in 1870. It was widely acclaimed on its release and is still regarded as one of the greatest adventure novels and amongst Verne's finest works, along with Around the World in Eighty Days and Journey to the Centre of the Earth.
On receiving disturbing reports of an enormous sea monster, marine biologist Pierre Aronnax joins an expedition to find and destroy it. The intrepid explorers discover that the supposed monster is in fact an advanced submarine, the Nautilus. Its creator, the misanthropic Captain Nemo, takes them on a worldwide tour of undersea wonders, including volcanoes, a giant squid, and the ruins of Atlantis. Just as thrilling a read as it was on its first release, Verne's novel is an unmissable literary classic.
