Description

Summer, 1904. Elijah Blackstone, private detective, and his assistant, Willie Davidson, travel to Chelmsford to investigate two crimes. Along leafy country lanes a pair of brigands are robbing bicyclists and an old, valuable book has been stolen from Springfield Lyons House.

All the while the army is conducting manoeuvres across Essex and a soldier is bent on revenge.

Competing suitors, historical witch trials, antiquarian pursuits, the Marconi Works and a malign spirit coalesce into tragic consequences.

This is the sixth in a series of Elijah Blackstone mysteries.
