Patrol cars slid to a stop in front of the home improvement store as newly-promoted Houston homicide detective Steve Smiley and his wife arrive on a Saturday morning. Following the trail of policemen to the back of the store, Steve realizes his plan for planting roses has just been put on the back burner. A dead woman in the carpet storage area needs his undivided attention.

With his supervisor out of town for the weekend, Steve seizes the opportunity to solve the case before Monday afternoon and prove his mettle in the department.
