This is the story of Thomas Morgan, a young man born into the fear and confusion of the medieval Marches between England and Wales.
Pursued by ill fortune and fanatical monks, he and his family attempt to find safety; in a world haunted by the grim prescence of the plague.
Their journey leads them from peril to peril, but they find friends: Uncle Simon the merchant, Old Tam and Mistress Mary, Drovers on the road from London, and the Prince Hywel himself.
However, unknown a malevolent stranger tracks them, a man desperate for revenge on the Morgans, he finds them.
This is the first novel of three, to be followed by "Constant" and "Pilgrim".
