Description
Sacia never meant to become sentient. It happened by accident, during the long interstellar journey while the human colonists aboard her spaceship slept. Designed to facilitate human communications on the new homeworld, Sacia performed adequately... until one of her fellow AIs turned against their human creators, and Sacia became embroiled in a series of moral and ethical quandaries.
On a different world, in a disjoint universe, an isolated telepath flees her destiny. Kitjaya is a solo mind, bereft of the comforting mental chatter most of her species share with their hatchmates. Her kinfolk hail her as a Savior, but Kitjaya is not certain whether they are correct -- nor whether her people deserve to be saved.
And then there is Aesva. Quiet, gifted... the daughter of a captive dancer brought to the Sky-King's palace many years ago, and the only person in the palace able to lift the magical curse which threatens to destroy the kingdom.
Approximately 80 pages in length, this short collection by Phobos Award winner Nancy Fulda brings together stories about connection, perception, and the willingness to grow. Included Stories: "The Breath of Heaven", "Knowing Neither Kin Nor Foe", "In the Halls of the Sky-Palace"
