The Dangers of Form

"Many well intending individuals have started out with a Spiritual experience; and then, tried to fulfill it in the realm of religious form, rather than further Spiritual experience.

The Buddhist monk, the Catholic priest, the Protestant Clergy. Do they look, and dress, the same ? That's called form.

Much of what we are calling ministry is a promotion of form, rather than Spiritual ministry.

Some people get their satisfaction out of:

- knowledge
- position
- community service
- "group" activity
- a "caring" leader, or group
- emotional high
- sensationalism
- music
- professionalism
- a positive culture for their family
- friendships
- opportunity for involvement
- new skills
- religion
- the promotion of religion
- how we look
- what we do
- the "project"
- the "activity"
- the "idea"
- the "group"

All of these can take the place of the Spirit of God, with His ministries, and intentions. (St. Matthew 7:15-27) They are a continuous danger, and constantly have to be "turned away from" in order that we might grow in grace,... and serve in grace and truth.

As we have referred to the seven churches found in Revelation chapters two and three, the message is repetitive:

"I know your works... " "He that has an ear,... let him hear what the Spirit would say to the church"

All of these "form" things have their own language and daily demands, but can they say...

"I in Him,... and He in me" ?

They have a tendency to not "abide in the vine". (St. John ch.15) It's possible to have a Spiritual idea, and then, try to finish it without the Spirit of God.

Ritualism brings confidence, when the Holy Spirit is trying to bring change. They war against... each other.

Progress, and development, can become our God. Pride and arrogance.
We watch for success in others, but we can't feel the pain. I have walked in this garden of despair.

But, even knowing all these things, we can get caught up with talking too much. We need to "hear" what the Spirit would say to the church, and to the individual. Simplify. Let His graciousness take... you back.

I have seen many things in the church that I don't like; but I have learned that we can't build barriers against the people.

"God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
- Romans 5:8

The false glory needs to be removed, so that the "glory of the Spirit" may come forth.

We need to "humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God".

All of these other concerns are like weeds in our hearts. Even the timing, and speed, of religion can become so important as to distract."
