Description
You're twenty-five but feel forty-five. You should be having the time of your life. But all you do is stress about your future-free job, low salary, alleged friends and non-existent partner. If your life was a movie it would go straight to DVD. And nobody would rent it.
This book is based on Damian Barr's column in the Times about graduate life. He spoke to hundreds of men and women in their twenties from all over the UK. Everybody had a different story, but there were common themes. Almost everyone felt they should be doing better, earning more, living faster and looking better than they do now. Work, Housing, Money and Relationships are what we all worry, dream and talk about. The quarterlife crisis can affect any, or all, of these areas.
Get It Together was first published in 2004: pre-recession, pre-riots, even pre-eBook! It was before facebook status update anxiety! Much has changed but for twentysomethings now there are more threats, and opportunities, than ever.
This guide is in four parts each looking in depth at one area. Is it worth doing a postgrad or working abroad? Should you buy or rent? What are the true start-up costs of your first job, and how do you negotiate pay? Is the person you first started going out with as a fresher still right for you? Are you still right for them? Should you go travelling (again)?
The big question is: is the pressure to get it together making you fall apart?
The answers are here.
