Dunn was a simple technician. He was also something they needed: Human.

From I'm Only Human:
"Where is the Colony Rep? You're just a computer. I want to speak to a human, face-to-face."
The computer didn't answer.
"I want to speak to a human," Dunn repeated.
The computer still didn't answer.
Dunn stood up. "Is there anyone left alive?"

Charles Dunn arrives on a silent world to troubleshoot a simple communication problem. He discovers the entire human population is frozen in quarantine and being tended by robotic caretakers. When these patients are threatened, the robots need Dunn to do what they cannot.
