Gunnery Sergeant Lee Giordani commands the Marine Security Guard Detachment at the United Stated Embassy in Yemen. The MSG detachment is a 13 man unit normally charged with the internal security of the embassy. The Marines swap dress uniforms for camouflage and rifles when the Sharia Revolutionary Brotherhood decapitates the Yemeni government and co-opts its military as part of a grand plan to install an Islamic theocracy.
The SRB seizes the British embassy and murders a number of British diplomats as a warning against western interference with their plan. Fearing a similar fate for its diplomats if the American embassy should fall, the president orders a rescue mission. Giordani's Marines must hold the embassy long enough for a company of US Army Rangers to reach deep inside hostile territory to rescue eighty-nine civilians and their guardians.
