Description
The subject of the book is about a young English woman, proud and intelligent, trapped in Germany during the Second World War and it is exciting, yet thoughtful. Although she meets a young German man and they fall deeply in love, they are parted and her journey then begins, with a group of women and children, as the Russians try to find places for them to stay under their control. This takes her across Germany into Poland and describes both the hardships and the cruelty of their guardians. It illustrates the friendships which develop, but it also shows the resilience of the women and their determination to survive, with an underlying love story weaving throughout it.
