Tall Shadows, Dark Secrets, is set in the fictional town of Covinport, Southshire, a county in the south of England.

Eve Sanderson, had reached a crossroads in her career. Faced with several options of how to progress, a series of sinister events lead to a whole new adventure for her.

Having spent the morning researching in the local records office, followed by lunch with her cousin, author, Raymond Wheels, the pair witness a disturbance by the river where an argument ensues and violence occurs between two male strangers. Eve offers her assistance to the well-dressed man, Peter Tytherley. He is adamant he does not want Police involvement but Eve gives him her business card in the event he changes his mind.
Peter Tytherley is met by his chauffeur and leaves Eve to say her goodbyes to her cousin before retrieving her car from the records office car park and going home before the falling snow gets any worse.
Shortly afterwards Eve becomes unwell and is assisted by a dashing passer-by, Tom Cransley, who looks as if he has just walked off of a 1940's Hollywood film set. Cransley drives her home to Lavender Cottage, the home she shares with her aunt.

Several days later Eve receives a letter from Peter Tytherley inviting her to his London home for the weekend as thanks for her assistance in Covinport, as well as a business proposition.

There follows a series of events and mysterious goings on, including several murders and unexplained happenings, which Eve cannot avoid, getting caught up in.
