Description
Thomas Paine and Samuel Adams were both indispensible to the success of the American Revolution and the creation of the American Republic. Religiously they were very different!
Sam Adams was a devout Christian Congragationalist who believed the Bible was the word of God and Jesus was the Son of God. Tom Paine was a Deist and believed in God based on the application of his reason on the laws and designs in Nature. He also used his innate God-given reason to reject Christianity, Judaism and Islam.
After Paine wrote The Age of Reason in which he promoted belief in God based on reason and Nature along with the rejction of Christianity and the other "revealed"/hearsay religions Paine was attacked and wrongly labeled an Atheist and an infidel. Sam Adams wrote a letter to him asking him why he had written The Age of Reason and pointing out how he believed religion was important for people to embrace. Paine responding with a thoughtful uplifting and inspiring letter to his sincere friend, Sam Adams. Paine did a beautiful job of pointing out the difference between God and religion and gave some wonderful insight regarding prayer. This is a great and important eBooklet for anyone interested not only in American history but who wants to have their ideas about God evolve to new levels.
