Description

Beloved Christian, the prayer Yeshua (Jesus) taught His disciples, Ha Avinu - The Our Father, is an abbreviated version of the Amidah Prayer or also known as the Eighteen Benedictions, which has been prayed from ancient time.

It is important for Believers to be familiar with this prayer, which is also the FOUNDATIONAL PRAYER of Jewish religious life. The prayer is ageless, some of the changes to it being made two hundred years before the time of Yeshua. The prayer is extremely beautiful, full of Scriptural quotations and allusions and covers the eighteen vital prayer points for every Believer. Every Believer in ancient times was obligated to pray the Eighteen Benedictions daily; however, in times of emergency, one was permitted to pray a SHORTENED FORM of the Eighteen, such as Ha Avinu (The Our Father).

Using the image of Master and servant, the sages declared that a worshipper should come before his or her Master FIRST with words of praise, THEN should ask one's petitions, and FINALLY should withdraw with words of thanks. This is the layout of the Amidah Benedictions as well as the abbreviated version as Yeshua taught us - Ha Avinu. Thus, every Amidah is divided into three central sections: praise, petitions, and thanks, that is Ha Avinu! When Yeshua's disciples asked Him to teach them to pray, His response was a shortened version of the Amidah. "The Our Father" undoubtedly shows how very Jewish Yeshua was.

The "Ha Avinu" prayer therefore teaches us and is a memory aid to remember the order of the blessings of the Amidah!

This booklet covers the following topics:

? How Many Times Do Observant Jews Pray It?
? The Origin of the Amidah
? Who Pray the Amidah?
? Why is It Called the Standing Prayer?
? Structure of the Amidah Prayer
? The Avinu and Amidah Prayer Compared

Believers who are introduced for the first time to the Amidah Prayer find it strange to pray whilst reading the words with their eyes open due to their Christian background to close eyes whilst praying, but it is perfectly normal to read prayers and think about the words in a Hebrew mind-set.

We suggest you download the FREE DVDs from the MRS Store and listen to the Amidah in concentration whilst reading the words from this booklet: www.hrti.co.za/shop (video called 00 AMIDAH PRAYER and 01 AVINU PRAYER, download at FREE MUSIC)
