Description
A laugh-out-loud story told in the rich, down to earth Geordie dialect. It was a year when, in sporting news, Alan Shearer hung up his boots and left Newcastle United, the FIFA World Cup was fought in Germany and Liverpool lifted the F.A. Cup. But, for one small, non-League football club on Tyneside, their headlines would only make a mere two column inches on the back page of the local rag. Jack Stubbs, sweet shop owner and wily Chairman of Shilton F.C. thought the time was right for a celebration to mark the 35th anniversary of the Tynesiders' legendary International Cup triumph of 1971 and to incorporate the Colliers' annual Players Awards into one big event. The Reunion would bring together many of the former players who had battled in that memorable cup competition. However, Stubbsy's real motive - raising much needed funds for the now cash-strapped club - would only be achieved with the help of his motley band of committee-men. But Jack could never have foreseen how one old man, club regular and life-long supporter Johnny Bell, would inadvertently take him and many others, down a hilarious path of madness, mayhem and foul play, through Johnny's erstwhile and comical tales from rekindled memories. A long-running comedy of errors would, once again, see his Cup winning team clash with their historical adversaries in an attempt keep hold of their prized Trophy under the most bizarre set of circumstances.
