Description
Barney is a fifteen year old boy living in a rural town called Pinnton. The year is 1969, the second week of the summer holidays. Barney is bemused with the world, coming to terms with his transformation into adulthood, questioning life with a naivety and innocence only someone of his age could. For Barney and his friends there is one thing they have been preoccupied with for the past three years - to win the war! Barney is a member of a gang and they are at war with the town's golf course. The fairways and greens are their battleground, the whacks (golfers) and dibbles (greenkeepers) their enemy. 'Driver Boy' spans a single week. Through humour and tragedy, along with its many eccentric characters, it tells of the events leading up to the downfall of the golf course.
