An excerpt from this Andrew Luck Biography:
Many people know Andrew Austen W. Luck as the former star quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts. Football fans far and wide have probably followed his career from his college days with the Stanford Cardinal. They know Luck is one of the best passers in the game. He is a gunslinger with uncanny accuracy. In fact, he set all sorts of passing records in his second and third years in the National Football League (NFL). Not only that, but he can also make plays on the ground. If the pass rush stops him, he can scramble out of the pocket for extra yardage. Dare him to run 20 yards or so for the touchdown and he will do it.
Luck was the first overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. The Colts were a franchise in disarray at the time. They had come off a disastrous 2-14 season, and their franchise quarterback, Peyton Manning, had undergone several neck surgeries. He had to miss the entire 2011 NFL season, and as a result, Indianapolis turned to the likes of Kerry Collins, Curtis Painter, and Dan Orlovsky to be their quarterbacks. NFL teams usually stick to one starting quarterback for an entire season (unless he gets injured). The Colts had three in 2011. Needless to say, players and coaches alike had to make adjustments time and again, making team chemistry almost impossible to achieve.
Then Andrew Luck came along.
In Luck's first three years in the NFL, he guided the Colts to a respectable 33-15 (.686) win-loss record. He also helped Indy advance to the next round of the playoffs in his first three seasons. Not bad for a young quarterback with a Stanford background.
However, things took a turn for the worse in 2015. Luck suffered an assortment of injuries (including a lacerated kidney) which forced him to miss nine games. As a result, the Colts stumbled to an 8-8 finish and missed the postseason for the first time in Luck's four-year NFL career. Luck, a three-time Pro Bowler, was back in the harness. He even signed a lucrative six-year, $140 million contract in June 2016, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history.
