Sunka Wakan. It's what the Lakota people call the horse. For hundreds of years, the horse has been a vehicle, a tool, a companion and a friend to many different tribes, not the least of which were the Lakota. "We Are A Horse Nation" is a documentary which tells the story of the Sunka Wakan Oyate (Horse Nation) from the perspective of the Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota). As relatives (Mitakuye Oyasin), we want to bring together traditional and contemporary Lakota, Dakota and Nakota songs, stories, teachings, experiences, knowledge, thoughts and beliefs, to be compiled for a one-of-a-kind film resource to be utilized by the intended audience; the future generations of the Oceti Sakowin.
