Description
Halloween was originally never a one day festival. With the ancient Druids of Britain, the first of November was a night full of mystery, in which they annually celebrated the reconstruction of the world. Although this cult is now extinct, they did give us what eventually came to be called "All Saints Day," "All Souls Day," and preceding these... "All Hallow Eve" (or if you will: All Hallow Even). A three day festival of the dead.
This books celebrates the strange and the eerie from an historical and entertaining perspective, and it does so in a whopping 50 chapters, which include:
A Historical Look at Halloween, The Mystery of the Red Wolf of Maine. The History of Hauntings, True Ghost Stories, Irish Folk Lore and Halloween, Cocotte, a Canine Ghost Story, How to Become a Werewolf, The Occult in Shadows, Sun Worship and Halloween, The Wood of the Dead, What is a Ghoul?, The Coffin-Lid, The History of the Terror Tale, Murderous Ghosts, Halloween Fires, The Black Dog and other Animal Ghosts, The History & Belief in Apparitions, The Horror: A True Tale, Poltergeists, A Canadian Ghost Story, Irish Poltergeists, The Apparition of the Murdered Boy, Ghost Stories, The Squaw by Bram Stoker, The Werewolf in European Folklore, The Apparition, The Unburied Dead, The Dance of Death by Algernon Blackwood, The Mythology of the Child-Stealing Witch, A Halloween Story, The Mysterious Angels of Mons, The Ghost of the White Lady, The History of the Planchette, A Polish Ghost Story, Why Ghosts Wander, Ghosts of the Murdered, Halloween Superstitions, True Stories of Haunted Houses in Ireland, The Phantom Dachshund, The Ghost that Resides in Each of Us, Bulwer Lytton's _The House and the Brain_, as described by Hereward Carrington, The Vengeance of a Tree, The Dead Mother, Warnings Of Peril And Death, Witchcraft in North Carolina, The Strange Case of Kaspar Hauser, Tales of the Banshee by Arthur Benjamin Reeve 1919, The Witch Girl - Russian Folk-Tale, The Flying Dutchman and Other Legends of the Sea, Halloween Frolics
