Noland owes everything to his recruiter, Jasmine. If she hadn't decided to pick him up, he'd still be wandering in the nightmarish hereafter, bitter and alone. Having missed their chance at love while alive, the pair begin falling for each other in spirit form.

Now, Jasmine is banished to a dark place. The only way out is to never arrive -- or spend thousands of years battling vicious creatures to get back to the light. Although recruits can't directly save anyone they know, Noland can influence a living person from an earlier time to stop Jasmine's suicide.
