Description

Set in the first half of the twelfth century, this tale follows the fictional journeys of a Somerset peasant, from his childhood abduction and slavery in Ireland, through his growing to maturity in servitude and then his release and return home. The story begins in the small West Country village of Aisholt, Somerset where, according to historical records, another family of the same name were also poor peasants under the local Lord in 1320 . The name Aisholt came from the hamlet being surrounded by woods full of Ash trees. As we will see, the principal Character's name came from his father's ultimate occupation.
