Set in the late Victorian era, 'Where the Wolves Lie' tells the story of sisters, Beth and Hattie Armstrong. Hattie is the younger of the sisters who lives in her imagination, resisting reality. She is a lonely character who relies on her elder sister for company. After Beth has a tragic accident that leaves her in a wheelchair, their strict mother takes them away from Nottingham to stay with their widowed aunt in the Lake District. Strange things soon begin to happen and Hattie becomes caught up in tales of the faerie folk that live in Elleray Forest as she struggles to save her sister from an illness that threatens to separate them for good.
