Description
Volume 17 of our bilingual series of eBooks (BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SPANISH LANGUAGE) is provided as an aid for students (especially bi-lingual students) who are studying different periods of Spanish and Latin American culture. During a brief review of the history of the development of the Spanish language, students will learn about the origin of the province of Castile and its language which is now spoken by more than 500 million people. Examples are given of how words dating from the time of the Celts, Romans, Visigoths and Moors have passed into modern Castilian (Spanish). By studying short excerpts from various literary masterpieces, students can compare medieval Castilian with a version as spoken today. A translation in English is provided as well. This ebook is well illustrated with photos that will help students relive the events covered in the text. Activities, questions and a final exam are provided to help students learn about the great history of the Spanish language as they express themselves in their target language.
This eBook is the 17th in a series of bilingual guides (English & Spanish) for teachers and students -- each featuring an important topic in the field of history, literature or art of Spain and Latin America. Beginning students in either language can learn about their culture in their native language and advanced students can concentrate on the new language they want to learn. Why not learn a language and, at the same time, learn about its great culture by studying history, literature and art? These guides will be especially helpful for bilingual students who will learn to appreciate their history and background in either or both languages. Questions are included and can be used as notes to compose short presentations to promote connected speech rather than one or two word answers.
