For a hundred-thousand years, mankind has been afraid of the dark. They heard things in the black. Outside the range of their campfires, there was something hungry, something dangerous, yet something darkly intriguing. Most who wandered out, would never to be seen again, their foot prints in the dirt abruptly stopping. But then there was the few. Those singular individuals who returned, covered in blood or something more distasteful.

These people were hailed as heroes. But no more...
In modern times, the darkness still exists and so do the things contained therein. And those few heroes can be also found, though they now know to be more secretive in their activities. General public wouldn't understand. Best to allow them to live in the blessed fantasy of their daily lives.
They don't need to know about their husband was the last victim of a transdimensional shambler. They don't need to know that the gang their cousin got involved in was the most recent iteration of the Esoteric Order of Dagon. And they really don't want to know that the book club their great aunt Theadora's involved in is studying an ancient book of spells, wrapped in more recently processed human flesh.

Ignorance is bliss. The Parliament of Crowe doesn't have that luxury.
They are the warriors, the scholars and the mystics; the heroes of the old ages, fighting a nightly battle against insurmountable forces of the Yogsothic pantheon. Sometimes it's a cult filled with impressionable humans; sometimes its mutants and monsters, protean nightmares and impossible fiends. No matter the form, the purpose is the same; the end of humanity. The enslavement and destruction of every man, woman and child on this planet.
To this age, a new generation is brought together to fight the good fight. If possible, the war is getting more fraught, more dangerous. There is an apprehension among the pantheon, an urgency to their plans, ploys and plots; a desperation pressing them to move harder, faster, to take more risks.
