Description

Luca Fontana is an investigative journalist from Milan. He has written a series of books exploring the intrusion of the Calabrian Mafia into every walk of public life throughout the Italian peninsula. Fearing for his personal safety - and that of his wife and two young children - he decides instead to write report on the town of Collemaga - a small town set high up in the mountains of Abruzzo, which enjoys the dubious reputation of being "the most cursed town" in Italy. He encounters a variety of characters who appear reluctant to let him into the secrets of this township - most notably the mayor himself. He quickly has to invent a pretext to cover the real reason for his presence in this town. He is pursued wherever he goes by a sleazy individual called Luigi Bonifaccio who, Luca learns, is supposedly the son of the powerful fattucchiera - the sorceress - of the town. A foolhardy act of charity involving a young Moroccan women. trapped in the town by Luigi Bonifaccio, triggers events which have immediate consequences for Luca's own safety. He rapidly comes to terms with the fact that his "harmless" investigation into this mountain community poses a far greater threat to his life than any of his previous exploits.
