Description
In March 1998, Sulak Sivaraksa proceeded to block the Yadana Pipeline in the middle of the Kanchanaburi jungle. It was the climax of a long, popular public protest on the Thai border with Burma (now named Myanmar), against an infrastructure project which brought with it massive human rights abuses perpetrated against Karen and other ethnic minorities who live in political limbo along that border, and enormous ecological damage to the once pristine forests of both countries. Danny Campbell, at the outset of his writing career, was there to witness the events first hand, and this essay, first published in 2003, is the true account of what took place. Includes Sulak Sivaraksa's testimony to the Central Court of Justice, Bangkok, Thailand.
