Description
Spanning early civilization to present-day Philadelphia, Non Excidet traverses humanity's quest to find purpose in life through family, faith, tribe, religion, country, and the written word. The novel begins with early man evolving from hunter and family-provider, to an individual of greater aspirations after a presumed supernatural encounter and events that make him contemplate his mortality. From there, the novel highlights a tribe having their faith tested while attempting to return home, a Roman scholar who undergoes a sudden transformation, a young man enslaved in Ireland who must choose either accepting his servitude or attempting to make an escape, the Irish rebellions of the 17th century and their aftermath, and the founding of Philadelphia. All accounts provide a vast history of the neighborhood of Holmesburg in Philadelphia, the values and beliefs of its people, and the experience of the individual, Connor Dempsey, who is attempting to find personal meaning in his life while faced with a devastating obstacle.
