Description

The first in a light hearted series of westerns. An elderly man, Tom Moore, recounts his younger days. He tells the story of how he met Ben Culley, who fearing he is to blame for a murder, runs away from England to America during the 1880's. They meet up by chance in Colorado, and travel to a town known as Rocky Springs. Very soon, due to his very English accent, Culley becomes the subject of ridicule by a young cocky bully who was very fast with a gun. To everyone's surprise, Culley gets the better of him without even hurting him. Later, the young bully's cohorts, eager to back their friend up, are treated in the same manner. This leads to the local Mayor offering Culley the vacant job of Sheriff, together with Moore as his deputy. Within a few weeks, Culley is informed in a letter by his girlfriend in England, that he is free of blame for the murder. It was carried out by someone else. She intends to visit him in Rocky Springs, however, on the stagecoach journey from Denver, she is injured in a robbery. Culley, together with Moore, successfully track the culprits down. To everyone's surprise, Amelia buys a ranch to breed horses, but soon after, a man known as Tate, wants to buy it, and is very persuasive. Things begin to occur to try and make her sell, and on the day she marries Culley, her young helper is cruelly murdered. In pursuit of the killers, Ben and Tom are led on a false trail by a tracker who ends up stealing their horses, abandoning them in them in the mountains. In an attempt to get back to town, the pair are inadvertently forced to help rival Indians. Eventually, after some days and more entanglements, they manage to return to Rocky springs, where they discover Amelia has disappeared. Ben and Tom decide to spend the night at Amelia's ranch, but find it occupied by some drifters who were encouraged by Tate, who is also nowhere to be found. With the drifters out of the way, and at the crack of dawn, they discover Amelia had been hiding out in the woods at the end of her land. On Tate's behest, a feared gunslinger by the name of Kid Blakey comes to town, and from then on, Ben;s metamorphism is complete; he had changed from a trick gun player to a deadly killer. Unbeknownst to Ben and Tom, Tate organises the final showdown in a saloon.
