For Thomas Flowers, all these were common occurrences obtained through generations of teaching, learning and practice. With great powers comes great cost and the Council of Metacognition wants that which is owed. They want Thomas and they want him now but, someone stands in their way. She is the matriarch of the family and she will not let Thomas be tested, let alone be taken. He has too much to live for; his medical career, his untold future and Addie, his first love. "Have you completed the instructions?" The taller figure did not turn from the ever-growing fire. "Yes. The window on the far side was left open, and the lightning rod cable was cut well below the fastener under the gable. It will look like it sparked all along the side. The fire is well under way. I'll need to sound the alarm." As they watched, a large plume of smoke burst through a window on the fourth floor of the Library where Thomas was studying. Inside Thomas smells the smoke, he drops to one knee. What is wrong? Why can't he move? The tea, was it poisoned? He has one chance, he must transluetate. It is a risk, he has never completed the process without preparation, but he has no choice. What will be on the other side? Can he make it?
