Description
Laugh a line comedy tale from Taumarunui in the Ruapehu of New Zealand. Taumarunui's one and only living treasure is Wayne King - a young pinnie-wearing supermarket worker, farmer, blessed with brawn not brains and with a secret talent for bush poetry. The King country town is awash with Christmas discounted scorched almonds and in the heat, Wayne stands for everything that's good and 'normal' - like farming and fish 'n' chips. Wayne's battle against townie developers, longhairs and Council brings him head to head with fiery, red-headed Summer. She's a greenie vegetarian and struggling writer who wears compost-coloured dresses.
Follow Wayne and Summer lurch from one hilarious small town crisis to the next. Local author, David Hammond, brings the King Country alive with a cast of larger-than-life characters who you'll laugh at and fall in love with. The light, funny and easy-to-read book is set around the landmarks that kiwis know well. Good, normal fun in the country and suitable for younger readers also.
