Juliana thought Morzania would be better than Tharis, but after leaving the Dunes and Dires behind, she returns to her homeland to find it unrecognizable. Mages are being persecuted, there's racism in the streets, the Obsidian Knights patrol the land under the orders of the false king, and there is a pandemic on the horizon. Juliana has to keep her magic hidden while trying to help her people. She and Michael do their best to help Cole run a makeshift medical clinic above the local tavern but when medical supplies get low they volunteer to find out what's keeping the Apothecary from delivering the poultices they need. As the people get sicker and the weather worsens Michael and Juliana discover that the Apothecary's apprentice has gone missing with the herbs needed to complete the poultice order. If they can't find him and his supplies, the city of Tramain is doomed to a pandemic that the nobles refuse to admit exists. Unfortunately, the boy went missing in the forest where Obsidian Knights, Slavers, and Bandits run amuck. If the weather doesn't get them before they find the apprentice, their enemies might.
