The story follows Rowan, and Zoe, sweethearts from their youth.

Rowan moves back home to take care of his elderly parents and to continue his studies.

His parents are quite wealthy and own a Ranch as well as a local diner/coffee shop.

Rowan's life changes as he has to take responsibility for his parent's businesses because of their old age.

Rowan has never been married and Zoe is a widower. She married a drunk who died in a car crash, but she never got over her high school sweetheart Rowan and he didn't get over her either.

Rowan studied at Harvard and grew up somewhere in Arizona. He moved to Boston for school to study medicine and didn't return until 15-20 years to give back to his society by moving back to practice in Arizona.

Zoe is a Nurse in Arizona. She got married once to an abusive alcoholic man once who died in a car crash and swore never to fall in love again after series of dates that went South until she runs into her high school sweetheart Rowan.
