Description
A short story set in the Paris of La Belle Époque; an age of inventions and Expositions, a time of absinthe, the impressionists and Le Moulin Rouge.
Monsieur Hercule Quincompoix, Surveillant Générale of the Bureau des Lampes, Lampadaire et Poteaux Indiquateurs has a problem. Someone is stealing the heads off his Paris lampposts. Herbert Dedwick, his English engineer, is charged to investigate. The trail leads him into the doubtful company of the intrepid balloonist. Capitan Adolphus Chicheportiche and his even more suspect assistant, the cabaret dancer Mimi La Sardine - the toast of Le Moulin Rouge. Paris in 1899 holds some strange secrets.
