Description
An 8-year-old boy has spent his life on his grandfather's farm with his grandmother, his parents and his little sister. It is a magical place in 1920 Sicily where the hillside is painted with colorful wildflowers and the sunlight bounces off the row of olive trees in the distance. But the boy's dream to one day inherit his beloved grandfather's small farm, which has been in the family for generations, is suddenly shattered when his father decides to leave Sicily and go to America. In this coming-of-age tale, it breaks the boy's heart to say farewell to his elders, who are as important to him as the air that he breathes. Leaving the farm, not knowing if he will ever see his grandparents again, continues to torment the boy as he juggles his emotions and plots to find a way to keep the family together. The boy is a student of history, a young philosopher, and a child with a huge heart. His grandparents adore him, but he begins to realize he must walk away from the only life he has ever known.
