Description
During the Covid Pandemic there were bouts of inexplicable panic buying.
Later, in the UK, the media introduced the possibility that there may be a shortage of petrol, in a matter of hours their self-fulfilling prophecy emptied fuel stations across the land.
Jamie Lynch has created software that makes this look like amateur hour. His artificial intelligence engine will control the herd and do whatever it is instructed to, thus ensuring the populace does whatever it is instructed to without being aware that they are being skilfully played.
Jamie's creation has been noticed and it is now coveted by an ancient, shadow organisation very used to getting what it wants and making a lot of money in the process.
Most of the world's wealth is owned by a select few.
They say money can't buy you happiness, maybe so, but it can buy you pretty much everything else.
Everything has its price.
Everything can be bought, it's all a matter of agreeing the price.
Jamie Lynch leaves a strange and disturbing meeting with an ancient and secretive organisation only to discover that his life's work has been bought from under him by this shadowy club. Worse than that, they have also bought him for good measure. This club don't do anything by half measures.
Ten million quid as a down payment with much more to come. That's an offer Jamie couldn't refuse, not that he was given the option to refuse.
Ten million quid. That's a show stopper.
Only the show has only just begun and Jamie is centre stage.
Now Jamie is in a race against time, because he knows that he's unlikely to outlive his usefulness. When the music stops he will be out of the game. Permanently.
With two serial killers on the loose and a cabal that is adept at covering its tracks, can DI Dunn stop the Entrepreneurs' Club before they get to Jamie Lynch, and will he prevent them from unleashing the weapon Jamie developed for more benign purposes... but isn't that usually the way with the most destructive of inventions, they were never intended to be used at weapons. That's what makes them so deliciously effective.
